RED BLUE DOOR
RED BLUE DOOR
The building is located within the nucleus of Lefkara in a contiguous building. It consists of two houses of 2 bedrooms with an internal courtyard. The work of restoration and renovation began with the removal of all the additions. Thus, the building is consolidated and regains its original architectural form: a sequence of rooms complemented by a second one and the “Anogi” in the depth of the small yard. The subsequent separation into two independent units was based on the now unified whole.
The new additions are not reproductions of the old but they are modern buildings. They are not pretending to be old but instead they form a contemporary addition. The extension is made of visible metal frame that floats above the old building and gives the sense that it can be easily dismantled. In terms of volume, this new addition is not imposed on the traditional building neither it obscures it.
Externally the building has traditional elements, found in other buildings in Lefkara such as the typology of the exterior red door with a loose plaster frame.
All rooms are oriented towards the internal courtyard where a small pool is formed. A sliding wooden partition separates the courtyard giving the possibility of segregation or integration according to the use.
From the terrace of the extension one can see the roofs of the other old buildings, paved with crushed white gravel (insulating but also fully harmonized with the white stone of Lefkara) showing the labyrinthine building, whilst the views of the surrounding mountains and the valley are breathtaking.
